As I attempted to begin the broadcast this evening, OBS would not load.
I managed to get it running after about 20 minutes, then it didn’t see the camera for some reason.
This is part of an ongoing series of problems which are caused, fundamentally, by neglect.
To run this production the way we have run it for all of these years requires a tremendous amount of work the audience is typically unaware of, not the least of which is technical upkeep.
As it became obvious this model was not financially sustainable, I have been trying to reduce my workload pertaining to the show. Among the consequences of this are tech problems. We have seen these emerge from time to time.
Usually they are solved pretty quickly, but tonight they made it impossible to do the show at all.
I’m probably going to have to take some planned time off.
I need to completely reassemble the studio, update software, deal with a hard drive crash that happened a few weeks back, and do some maintenance on the various servers that make the production possible.
Aside from my own dissatisfaction with how things are going, these tasks keep getting delayed because I have been trying to avoid situations wherein I am forced to cancel a show because a maintenance task is not completed in time for the next broadcast.
Well, now we find ourselves with the failure to perform these tasks making broadcasts impossible. That was inevitably going to happen, and it is long overdue that I get everything back in order here.
I will update you all soon.
Thanks.
